CEO Emma Smith was quoted in Singapore’s Business Times “Views from the Top” column on 17 February about what early lessons can be drawn so far about efforts to contain the novel coronavirus epidemic?
“Much remains unclear about the risk and characteristics of this coronavirus. This understandably provokes emotional responses such as fear and anxiety. The main lesson we have learned is that communication is key. Combating misinformation quickly and clearly is vital to prevent escalation, as is providing factual updates regularly. In the current environment, giving clarity to action being taken by governments and medical experts is paramount. In addition, enabling people to take an active role in reducing the spread of the disease and mitigating their own risk, is both reassuring and empowering.”
