Functions:

• Applies Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and to thoroughly implement the CPC Party’s guidelines and policies. Unifies the thoughts and actions of prosecutions. Preserves in the Party’s absolute leadership over prosecutorial work. Firmly upholds the central role of Xi Jinping in the central government and the whole party. Firmly upholds the authority and the centralized leadership of the CPC central Committee.
• Proposes proposals to the National People’s Congress and its Standing Committee, makes demands for legal interpretation to the Standing Committee, makes requests for review of whether administrative regulations, local ordinances, autonomy statues and specific regulations are in accordance with the constitution and the low to the Standing Committee.
• Leads the work of local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates. Guide the operations of people’s procuratorates of lower levels. Study and formulate working policy and total planning for the prosecutorial work. Deploy prosecutorial work and tasks.
• Exercise the right of surveillance on criminal cases directly dealt with by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate as prescribed for law. Guide the detective work of those criminal cases by local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates.
• Review by law approvals or decisions on the arrest, and prosecution of national significant criminal cases. Guide local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates’ work of approving or deciding on the arrest and initiating public prosecution of criminal cases.
• Be responsible for the criminal, civil administrative proceedings within the duty of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the  legal supervision work of the execution of valid legal documents.
• Be responsible for the commonweal litigation within the duty of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. Guide the commonweal litigation work of local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates.
• Supervise the Supreme People’s Court in the review of death penalty.
• Review the application for prosecution of provincial people’s procuratorate, and decide whether to approve the application or not.
• Be responsible for the legal supervision of law enforcement at prisons and detention centers within its responsibilities. Guide local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates to carry out the supervision work of these places.
• Deal with complaints proposed to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. Guide prosecutorial work of local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates to these complaints.
• Review the decisions made by local people’s procuratorates at various levels and the special people’s procuratorates when execute procuratorial authority, and correct the wrong decisions.
• Interpret issues concerning the specific application of laws in procuratorial work and issue guiding cases.
• To guide the theoretical research work of procuratorial organs throughout the country.
• be responsible for the formation of procuratorial organs and their ideological and political work. Lead the people’s procuratorates at all levels and the special people’s procuratorates to administer by law the work of public procurators and other procuration staff. Coordinate with the central ministries to administrate the department establishments and staffing of peoples’ procuratorates. Formulate administration methods of relevante staff. Organize and guide the education and training work of procuratorial organs.
• Coordinate with the competent department of the central government to administrate and examine the chief procurators the chief procurators of the people’s procuratorates and the special people’s procuratorates of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Coordinate with the provincial party committee to administrate and examine the deputy chief procurators of the people’s procuratorates and special people’s procuratorates of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
• Lead the work of procuratorial inspectors in the local people’s procuratorates at various levels and in the special people’s procuratorates.
• Plan and guide the work of financial equipment and procuratorial technical information at procuratorial organs throughout the country.
• To organize foreign exchanges and cooperation with procuratorial organs and carry out relevant international judicial assistance.
• Be responsible for other tasks that should be undertaken by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.
