- The President of the People’s Republic of China (hereafter referred to as “the President”) is the state representative of the People’s Republic of China
- The President of the People’s Republic of China, in accordance with the decisions of the National People’s Congress and the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, promulgates laws, appoints, and dismisses the premier, vice premiers, state councilors, ministers and commissions, the auditor general and the Secretary General of the State Council, confers national medals and titles of honor, issues amnesty orders, may declares a state of emergency or a state of war, and issue mobilization orders
- The President of the People’s Republic of China carries out state affairs activities and hosts foreign envoys
- In accordance with the decision of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the President dispatches and recalls representatives abroad, and ratifies and abrogates treaties and important agreements concluded with foreign countries
- On March 11, 2018, the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress adopted an amendment to the constitution of the People’s Republic of China. The text originally stated that “the term of office of the president and vice president of the People’s Republic of China is the same as that of the National People’s Congress, and the consecutive term of office shall not exceed two.” It is now revised to read: “the term of office of the president and vice president of the People’s Republic of China is the same as that of the National People’s Congress
