Functions:

  • The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, referred to as the “Politburo Standing Committee”, is elected by the plenary session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for a term consistent with that of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Its members are referred to as “members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee”. Politburo Standing Committee members are important members of the central leadership of the Communist Party of China, as well as important leaders of the People’s Republic of China
  • The constitution of the Communist Party of China stipulates that the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and its Standing Committee shall exercise the functions and powers of the Central Committee when the plenary session of the Central Committee is not in session
  • According to the constitution of the Communist Party of China, the candidates for premier of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China must be selected from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and at the same time be listed as chief leaders of the Standing Committee, and be able to convene and preside over standing meetings. According to historical precedent, the previous premiers of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China are also members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau
