Functions:
- Be responsible for national immigration management
- Coordinates the drafting of immigration and immigration management policies and plans
- Coordinates the implementation and drafts relevant laws and regulations
- Establishes and improves the visa management coordination mechanism
- Organizes the implementation of visas for foreigners to China
- Be responsible for visa renewals
- Be responsible for study abroad programs within China; manages permanent residence, citizenship applications, and refugees
- Manages entry-exit border inspection
- Manages Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents returning to the Mainland
- Combats illegal immigration, illegal residence, illegal employment of foreigners, and coordinates illegal immigration repatriation
- Investigates and punishes illegal activities, including obstructing border management
- Manages international cooperation regarding immigration
