Functions:
- Draws up plans for developing cultural relics and museum objects; draws up standards and methods for the identification of cultural relics and the management of museums; organizes the investigation of cultural relics resources; participates in the drafting of laws and regulations on the protection of cultural relics; responsible for supervision and inspection
- Coordinates and guides the work of cultural relics protection, performs the duties of supervising the law enforcement of cultural relics, organizes the investigation and handling of major cases of cultural relics violations; coordinates with relevant departments to investigate and handle major cases of cultural relics crimes
- Be responsible for the supervision of the protection and management of the world cultural heritage, organizes the review of the declaration of the world cultural heritage, coordinates with the departments of housing and urban rural development to review the declaration of the world cultural and natural heritage; coordinates with the departments of housing and urban rural development; responsible for the protection, supervision and management of the historical and cultural cities (towns and villages)
- Be responsible for the administration and guidance of archaeological work throughout the country, the organization and coordination of the protection of major cultural relics, and the implementation of archaeological projects; determines key sites under national protection
- Be responsible for promoting and improving the construction of the public service system for cultural relics and museums; draws up and promotes the implementation of the public resource sharing plan for cultural relics and museums; guides the business work of cultural relics and museums nationwide; coordinates cooperation among museums
- Be responsible for the management of the examination and approval of cultural relics and museums, and the accreditation of relevant qualifications
- Organizes and guides cultural relics protection and publicity, and draws up plans for the construction of cultural relics and Museum related talent teams
- Drafts and promotes the implementation of plans for science and technology, informatization and standardization of cultural relics and museums, organizes and carries out major scientific and technological innovation projects for cultural relics protection, and promotes the transformation and promotion of scientific and technological achievements
- Manages and guides the foreign affairs-related issues for cultural relics and museums; carries out exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other foreign countries of cultural relics; be responsible for the licensing and appraisal work related to the entry and exit of cultural relics
- Undertakes other tasks assigned by the State Council and the Ministry of Culture
